World famous, this beloved London institution came from humble beginnings to earn a reputation as the best place to eat Italian food outside of Italy. If you know you know and if you don’t….then please allow us to introduce you.

As you might have guessed, The River Cafe is so named because the river Thames runs right past the restaurant. This part of the river, just by the beautiful Hammersmith Bridge, has been Ruthie and her team’s home and their daily view since they opened in 1987 and whilst Londoners and tourists alike love the river, photograph it, want to dine and celebrate whilst looking over it, we’re not actually very good at taking care of it.

Last year, EARNT and The River Cafe announced they would be reinventing what it means to be an VIP by celebrating those who care as much about where they live as they do and now we are back for the second year running.

This year however we have a new ETY (Earned Thank You) from the team. The only thing is…it’s so brilliant, we can’t even tell you what it is. We do know, without a doubt, you don’t want to miss out. So sign up below and we promise it will be worth your while.

  • The What

It’s a secret but we can tell you, it’s the must have of the summer.

Where brand activation looks a lot like brand activism…

Doing something about the things they care about is what all EARNT brands have in common and The River Cafe is no different.

In summer 2022, a “wet wipe island” in Hammersmith, the size of two tennis courts was found, changing the course of the river.

Wildlife is also suffering. Mussel and eels numbers in the Thames have dropped by 95 per cent.

BUT…it’s not all bad news, in 1957 the Thames was declared biologically dead but this has been turned around. We just need to keep making an effort.

So The River Cafe want to help all of us play our part and that’s why they are getting involved.

Plastic is a big problem, the most frequently found items over the last five years were cotton bud sticks, bottle lids, takeaway containers, polystyrene and cups, and of course, wet wipes.

We’ll race you to who can collect the most and then then, let’s reduce our plastic use too.

‘The River Cafe is what it is today because of the river, guests dine alongside it, chefs cool off next to it, it’s our responsibility to keep it clean.
Richard, my husband, often quoted the Ancient Athenian oath ‘I shall leave this city not less but more beautiful than I found it’ And that’s what we are trying to do’
