Bake with Love: Age UK’s 11th Anniversary Valentine’s Gala
We can all agree Valentine’s day is no longer just for couples. It’s now a day where we celebrate the holiday of love with all those we care about. And so this year, we are back with purveyors of the world’s most beautiful tablecloths, Summerill and Bishop for the best day of the year with Age UK Kensington & Chelsea.
Founded back in the mid-90s by best friends June and Bernadette, Summerill and Bishop believe the dining table, where you gather for meals and celebrations with those you love, are where the best memories are made. It’s with this in mind that Summerill &Bishop are asking you to help them deliver the best table ever for the guests at the Age UK 11th Anniversary Valentine’s Day Gala.
Each year, Age UK K&C host a wonderful afternoon tea full of music, singing and companionship. Together, we are asking you to help them make this the best gala yet by making and baking the most love-filled heart themed cakes, tarts and biscuits. To say thank you for creating an incredible experience for the members who rely on Age UK for community, friendship and fun, Summerill & Bishop are gifting (yes you read that right-GIFTING) a set of 4 of their famous pink heart napkins.
But wait. There’s more.
Summerill & Bishop are keeping it spicy with a little light competition. The 'best in show' bake will be awarded a Summerill & Bishop 'Amour Bonheur' linen tablecloth (165 x 300cm). So, think bigger, better, more bountiful bakes, drizzled with even more love…and happiness.
This Valentine’s Day, let your Summerill and Bishop-inspired creativity flowing with sprinkles, icing, funfetti and anything else to make love-filled, heart-themed, red-and-white puddings for the often-overlooked members of our community.

Bake it
We need enough treats to feed 450 people, so we’re asking everyone to whip up two homemade goodies. Think cakes, cookies, tarts, or whatever makes your heart sing! As a guide, bake two cakes or one cake and a batch of cookies, cupcakes, or brownies. Homemade only, please—store-bought treats won’t make the cut!
Drop it off
Drop off is at the Summerill and Bishop shop in Notting Hill on 13th February between 10am and 2pm

FAQs
What should I bake?
Anything sweet and love themed!
Red velvet cake covered with hearts you say? Heart shaped brownies??? Funfetti, sprinkles and lots of pink icing not only welcome but encouraged! Nuts are best avoided. No shop bought cakes.
Please include a note with the ingredients and list any allergens. Vegan and gluten free cakes are very welcome!
How much love am I actually baking?
We are asking for two items with one item being either a cake or a batch of cookies/brownies etc (min 12). It sounds a lot but that’s only two cakes or a hearty (see what we did there?) tray of biccies or one of each! We are celebrating 400+ of our lovely Age UK members and we’d hate for anyone to go without. If you want to make more-of course you are very, very welcome!
Do I need special packaging?
No but please note we cannot return any of the packaging so only use items you are happy to part with. I know we said it already but just to be on the safe side…we also ask that you include a list of ingredients so we can be aware of any allergens.
When and where do I drop it off?
Please drop your baked delicacies to the S&B shop where they will be waiting eagerly to welcome you. The address is 100 Portland Street, W11 4LQ
To make sure the cakes are fresh and at their best as well as in line with food safety, the time for delivery is 10am -2pm on 13th February.
Who can go to the Valentine’s Day Gala?
Anyone! The Valentine’s Day gala is an inclusive event in line with Age UK K&C values. The more the merrier, only requirements are a love of fun!
The Gala takes place at HTB Church, Brompton Rd, London, SW7 1JA between 2 and 4pm on 14th February.
Please contact XChiesa@aukc.org.uk for more information.
I can’t do this time but can I help out anyway?
We love your enthusiasm and YES! Age UK has been working in the community to help older people, their families and carers for over 70 years and would love to get your support. You can donate to Age UK here and if you want to continue helping out in real life, Age UK K&C host lots of activities including a 70’s disco, bingo and even football with Chelsea Football Club and they need more volunteers so please contact the gorgeous Teresa on volunteer@aukc.org.uk.
Cancellations
Life happens, if you do sign up but for some reason can’t make it, please let us know as soon as possible so we can find someone else to make some lovely cakes for the guests at the gala. It’s not us you’ll be letting down, it means we won’t have enough cake and that will make everyone cry.
